After a birth injury in 1972 I was left with Erb’s palsy which hindered the development of my left arm. When I turned twenty in 1992, I decided that I wanted to play the piano. Because of my condition, standard piano lessons were not compatible with me, so I learned by practicing and reading books. During the covid experience of 2019 I decided to see if there were any one handed piano lessons online. This is when I found Mark Miller’s offer of online piano lessons for one handed players. He accepted me as a student in April, and I took lessons through August. I learned new techniques and theory from every lesson. What I learned from his lessons renewed my zeal for playing, and I continue to find new ways to apply the concepts that Mark taught me. The ability to have online lessons in my own home was very convenient. If you are a one handed player and are thinking about taking piano lessons, Mr. Miller has a wealth of knowledge and experience from which you can learn.

When I was young I wanted to play the piano really bad, we had a little piano organ in our home but I was not given the lessons because I only had one hand, and my parents thought why give her lessons she can’t do it anyways. So now that I am retired I thought I would look up to see if there would be any piano teachers that would teach a one hand player. I found Mark Miller right away and asked him if he could teach me. He said of coarse, and has been helping me learn the piano for the last three years. He has created songs and taught me how to play piano where is I thought I never could.

The style that Mark teaches and the patience he has for each of his students to learn I have appreciated very much. He never makes me feel that I can’t do it and always encourages me to continue and to strive for better.

I am very appreciative of Mark Miller, because he gave me something that I have wanted all my life. I may not be a concert pianist yet, but with Mark’s help you never know.

Thank you very much Mark for all your patience and dedication to helping one handed piano players.

If you would like to see my video that Mark helped me create, it is on his site under one handed piano player in Saskatoon.

I never played a musical instrument before but the desire to do so was always there. After losing the use of my right hand as a result of multiple sclerosis, I gave up on that dream. After retiring this past spring, I had the time to search for perhaps some tutorials for “one-handed piano lessons” to see if the dream I shelved could become a reality.

Through the Google searches, I found Mark and after our first conversation, knew that I found success!

Mark has the expertise (and patience) this newbie needs to feel that the goal of finally being able to play the piano could be realized. I look forward to my lessons and am pretty amazed that the techniques are actually clicking and the songs I’m able to play now are recognizable 🙂

I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me—thanks, Mark!

I was a classical guitarist for decades but had no foundation of music theory. I survived a stroke in 2013 with resultant loss of left hand function. I still have music in my brain so my therapist directed me to Mark Miller’s website. During our first free lesson I recognized that Mark would be the perfect teacher for me on an unfamiliar instrument. He approaches the teaching of music in a manner similar to teaching a foreign language and his method has truly functioned as music therapy for my brain. His offering of one-handed arrangements is wildly extensive and will appeal to any music lover. Mark is an amazing teacher and I am so grateful that we met!
